Each rug takes up to two weeks to complete by hand.

About the Waist Loom Tradition

The waist loom is one of the oldest weaving techniques used by Mesoamerican cultures, still practiced today in communities across Oaxaca and Chiapas. The loom is anchored to a pole or tree on one side and secured to the weaver’s waist on the other, allowing the artisan to control tension by body movement. Threads are interlaced perpendicularly to create the finished textile — a process that cannot be rushed. Every rug is a direct product of human skill, time, and tradition.
